5/29/2006 - Red Cross Disaster Action Team Responds to North County Fire on Gerald Place

The St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team on Tuesday morning to a house fire in the 800-block of Gerald Place in North St. Louis County to provide assistance on the scene. Red Cross caseworkers will support the family in their recovery effort.

5/29/2006 - American Red Cross and Microsoft Announce New Family Linking Website: KatrinaSafe.Org

Helping families, friends and colleagues reconnect after Hurricane Katrina remains a high priority of the American Red Cross. To make it easier for people to find one another, the Red Cross teamed with Microsoft and San Diego Supercomputer Center to consolidate information from many different websites.

5/29/2006 - Local Red Cross CEO to Deploy to Baton Rouge, LA for Hurricane Disaster Relief Operation

Joseph C. White, CEO of the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter, will deploy to Baton Rouge to serve as Organization Administrator for Red Cross Disaster Relief Headquarters for Louisiana. Joe will serve as one of seven administrators managing Red Cross relief efforts across the state.

The disaster caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is unprecedented in Red Cross history, in terms of the number of people affected, the extent of the area impacted and the scope of the destruction. Katrina alone impacted 15 times the number of families needing assistance after all four hurricanes in 2004.

The St. Louis Area Chapter dispatched a Disaster Action Team to the scene of a house fire in North St. Louis County in the 1500-block of Ascot Terrace. Volunteers provided assistance on the scene, and Red Cross caseworkers will support the family's recovery effort.

On Monday, the St. Charles County Service Center dispatched a Disaster Action Team to a condominium fire on Glen Echo in St. Charles County to support the recovery of three families, including seven individuals, and provide assistance to 38 emergency personnel on the scene.

The St. Louis Area Chapter is responding in the wake of numerous explosions and the resulting fire in the 2800-block of Hickory in south St. Louis. Disaster Action Teams have been deployed to the scene and a reception center has been opened for people affected by the disaster.
